blogkomm.com: comments for blogger-type weblogs

blogkomm :
comments for (blogger-type) weblogs

blogkomm is a commenting script for weblogs that allows comments to appear within your blog, below the posts.

No database is needed: CSS-styled comments, multilingual User Interface, browser-based setup and configuration plus admin-tool are stored on your own webserver.

Test it out in my (german) blog below, comments in any language are appreciated.

Riot On An Empty Street

Spending lunch break at the local record store I found the new album by Kings of Convenience. I heard some people say this album wasn't a surprising piece of music compared to the first album. They are wrong. I am now listening to tunes, whose pianos and steel string guitars will leave you like being dazzled by summer-sunlight. brrrrrr.

gravatarhey, can you help me check why the "remember me" feature doesn't work on my blog site?

My site is in Chinese.

gravatarhey Holger. Thanks for stopping by. I did add those cookie-setting codes to the beginning of the template. But it doesn't seem to have any effect. Thank you.

gravatarawesome tool. one question, when you add a comment the only "blog" you see is the one you are commenting on. I want this to happen on my site also, but at the moment, ALL blogs are viewable...how do I hide them?

goto www.thefluffyduck/thefluffyduck/index.php to have a look, its not live yet so please fogive its current stage. thanks heaps.

gravataryou have to upgrade to blogkomm 1.8 and enable the post-pages feature at blogger.com ... that's all
Holger, 12.07.2004, 7:24pm #
gravatarHi,

I'm trying your nice script and I'd like to know if there's a way to include the comments directly in the entry (in the 'permalink') instead of placing a link to the comments.
eloy, 15.07.2004, 2:05pm #
gravataryou mean like here? sure if your permalink includes the blogkomm_show_id and you use version 1.8 with blogger post-pages enabled.

gravatarI had a funky prob. I can't get ALL the posting pages into .php format in order for blogkomms to execute. Some come up as html. Is there a way to ensure all posting pages are turned into php format?

Holger, 03.08.2004, 12:20am #
gravatarI'm wondering how you did your comments to divide - what was the css style sheet change on this page? I'd liek to have my comments separated like that instead of all bunched up.
pylorns, 03.08.2004, 3:52pm #
gravatarseems like you missed adding the link to the css-file in your template. check the howto-file again, maybe ..
Holger, 03.08.2004, 4:43pm #
gravatari guess the function recent_comments_sidebar.php works only for english or other western languages. for far east languages, it will turn out to give only "...", as opposed to 8 words. can you take a look at this? thanks!
sanrou, 08.08.2004, 4:27am #
gravatarplease send me your ftp-user or your zipped "module" folder and i will see what i can do ...
Holger, 08.08.2004, 1:01pm #
gravatarHolger, thanks!
tarred module (to better preserve the attibutes such as permissions) is here: http://jindan.homedns.org/module.tar.gz

i noticed that the function is based on "words count", probably delimited by a space, but to my knowledge, far east languages do not use space between characters. is that the problem? i am totaly ignorant of php, though.

gravataryep, i was missing the css stuff, thanks.
pylorns, 10.08.2004, 1:24am #
gravatarThanks Holger! used your modified code, now at least the comments is showing at sideBar, - all of them, though. but i don't care really since most comments are short enough.

i think i saw similar sideBar functions on some other site, with good handling on far east languages, i'll let you know if i found any thing.
sanrou, 10.08.2004, 4:39am #
gravatarnothing to do with your blogging, but the cd is great!!! bought it yesterday and can't stop listening :o)))

gravatarwhy do the old comments to go the bottom of the page?
lorenzo, 17.08.2004, 4:28am #
gravatarHi Holger--

So I finally got around to installing 1.7, and I love the recent comments sidebar. Question: have I screwed up the install, or is HTML included in the snippet of comment text? I have someone who started their comment with a "cite" tag, and now the rest of the sidebar is in italics because the close of the tag wasn't quoted. Did I make a mistake, do I just have to either live with this or turn off HTML in the comments?

Thanks--
Kate Nepveu, 22.08.2004, 10:36pm #
gravatarsure if html is permitted things like that occur. the sidebar excludes the first strings and wont care about closing tags ... there should be a solution for this with a small change of the code (strip_tags)
Holger, 22.08.2004, 11:18pm #
gravatarHmmm, well, strip_tags worked, but as you can see the apostrophes are slashed: "hasn\'t", that kind of thing. Which is probably better than the code.
Kate Nepveu, 24.08.2004, 2:42am #
gravatarAlso, a bug report:

if the post that the comment is on, isn't on the main page, then the link doesn't work.

(Some code I'm willing to try and modify, but not this.)

Example:

http://www.steelypips.org/weblog/?show_id=109089428741416408#a393a3434616d
Kate Nepveu, 24.08.2004, 3:34am #
gravatarno bug, kate ... but you have to set blog_filename var in recent_comments_sidebar.php
Holger, 24.08.2004, 7:45am #
gravatarSorry! I'm an idiot for not noticing that option.

More than that, I'm an idiot because I can't figure out _what_ you need to set that as! The docs (I checked now) just say to set it, and I simply don't know enough php to tell it "go to the file where this post has its permalink, which has the form of yyyy_mm_archive.php."

(Okay, I know _no_ php and have just been hacking blogkomm in the past by guesswork.)

Sorry to be a pain.
Kate Nepveu, 24.08.2004, 4:07pm #
gravatarokay, let's leave here stop here .. i will write you an e-mail explaining it. i need a new topic for a new post. this one gets too long ..
Holger, 24.08.2004, 4:40pm #
gravatarI love Riot on an Empty Street so much that I repaired my old vinyl player just to buy the record. It is that good.

Also I'm going to try your commenting script for my site soon. Thanks for providing it. :p
